terroir pure barroche

Pure
Quintessence of a red grape varietal

Imagine a corner of land filled with century-old vines and the purest, sandy soil…

Made entirely from Grenache, the wine is a striking homage to Châteauneuf-du-Pape and its most celebrated grape variety.

It embodies delicacy and a synthesis of exquisite flavours, perfect balance between power and generosity.

We make a very limited amount of wine, please contact us to know how to have access to our cuvees

Assemblage

97% Grenache
3% Autres cépages

Pure is handcrafted from a single plot of 100-year-old vines and sandy soil, at the junction of “Grand Pierre”, “Rayas” and “Pointu” districts.

Viticulture

Rigorous bud pruning.
The picking is entirely by hand, with a meticulous double sorting in the vineyard.

Wine-making and ageing

Gravity-flow underground winery for gentle handling. Wine-making in tulip-shaped concrete tanks. Destemming of underripe stalks. The wine stays on the skins for over 4 weeks. Gentle extractions.

Aging in old oak cask for 18 months. The wine is not filtered before bottling.

Tasting

“Nutty notes mark the nose, joining exquisitely ripe cherries and raspberries. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it finishes long, with a touch of warmth and a dusting of dried spices.” Joe Czerwinski for the Wine Advocate – August 2018

“Offering a Grand Cru Burgundy-like nose of flinty minerality, blackcurrants, violet, white flowers, and ground pepper, it hits the palate with medium to full body, soft tannings, and a wonderful sense of purity and freshness… this is certainly one of the fresher, more Burgundian-styled wines I’ve tasted from Barroche.” Jeb Dunnuck – August 2019

“Very silky with mouthcoating fruit and tannin. This is powerful, packed full of fruit and acidity with great finesse, but also muscle and an exceptional length.”
Matt Walls pour le Decanter – Octobre 2020

Our vineyard
You cannot make a great wine without a great terroir

A family-owned estate with fewer than 15 hectares of vines, Domaine La Barroche nevertheless features a variety of terroirs in the northern and north-eastern part of the appellation, reflecting the best in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The variety of soils, diverse grape varieties, and hundred year old vines make Domaine la Barroche stand out.
